Who We Are
The Rampart Law Group is a small team led by attorney James Hou. Our specialty is working with people whose business and personal legal needs are inseparable. We are personal and business attorneys for people whose businesses are themselves. In our experience, clients like these—often first-generation professionals and business owners—work hard to realize the American Dream and only seek legal support when they are faced with an unavoidable legal challenge.
The son of immigrant business owners, James understands this pattern first-hand. Rampart’s approach is to be the kind of proactive support James’ parents did not have, the kind that would anticipate their legal needs and help them use the law to their advantage, to build something greater for the next generation.
“Rampart,” a defensive fortification, refers to the secure space we create and where our clients can speak openly about their plans and challenges. Inside the Rampart, they can deliberate carefully with a legal expert, enabling them to confidently answer questions and make decisions on the outside. Unlike other law firms, Rampart Law prioritizes relaxed and open communication. Text, email, WhatsApp, over coffee, Zoom, or over meals, we literally and figuratively meet our clients where they are.
What We Do
James compares the Rampart Model to that of the family physician. Ideally, all of us get regular checkups so that we can catch problems early, and plan for our long-term health. Our legal needs are similar: it pays to have someone who knows you and your legal health so that you can avoid problems.
Unlike most family physicians, Rampart Law can do most “procedures” in-house. Company registrations, contracts, leases, trusts and wills. We understand that these are not just documents to be signed and filed away, they are the written intentions of our clients’ goals and hopes.
Business, like life, takes us out of our comfort zones. We built Rampart to empower our clients to go forward with confidence and ease. We do this by prioritizing accessibility and availability—dispensing with the scheduling secretaries and in-office appointments of other law firms in favor of direct and responsive communication—becoming our client’s first call when they have a new idea, discover a new opportunity, or face the limits of their own experience. Our clients never go alone.
